Hi Friends! Happy WIAW and thanks for stopping by for the weekly fun. I hope you all had a great weekend. I had a great day in Baltimore at Expo East. I had a change in my schedule and ended up just going for the day. I left Pittsburgh super early and hit the road for the 4 hour drive to Baltimore. I arrived around 10:30 and hit the show immediately. It was great to meet some of my favorite brands and companies and to see the new trends and food and health products. This year was absolutely larger than last year. I’m thinking a Expo West visit needs to happen in March…Steph and Julie….you game? 🙂 Spent 4 hours there and lugged these huge bags around.
The variety of companies was unbelievable. Kudos to Bonafide Provisions and Safe Catch. Their staff were the absolute stand outs of the whole event. They were so personable and knowledgable. I have sorted through and tried some of the samples and there have been some hits and misses. Unfortunately I was back on the road a few hours later and wished I could have spent more time there. Till next year!
Now time for the WIAW fun…
I played around Simple Mills Pancake mix and added a flax egg instead of the applesauce as their site recommends. It definitely came out better. Not completely fluffy but a work in progress. Banana and Kite Hill yogurt on the side.
I took a break from a research project in the late morning and had some bone broth and these crackers.
I have given up on avocados at lunch. I’ve had some bad luck either buying ones that are over ripe or rock hard (even had one that never did ripen). I had the thought to add some spicy avocado hummus from Hope Hummus to my crackers. It was a great decision and added just the right amount of kick. I remember trying Hope Hummus years ago at Blend. I also had an Expo East sample of these bites from Nourish. I had heard about this company and Joy Bauer the nutritionalist who created them but had never tried them. They were great. This flavor was coconut vanilla but I tried the blueberry apple ones that were great. I’ll definitely add them to a snack routine or on the go snack.
I had heard about this new Sriracha sauce from Wildbrine on Instagram and tried it out last week. I’ve never tried their other products before but this is really good. It isn’t super hot or spicy which is nice if you have varying levels of heat lovers in your crowd. I talked to the company at Expo East and they said they make this with the left overs from their kimchi which provides the intense flavors.
Dinner was a baked sweet potato, ground elk, salsa, a ton of the Sriracha, and some guac on the side. Still digging the kale salad for dinner as well.
After dinner I dug into the stash. After trying a few items that were misses I picked out this Rice Krispy bar. I ear the granola bites from Made Good Foods along side a banana. OMG this was excellent and I will definitely pick a box of these up next time I am at the store. They tasted fresh and took me back to my childhood. My mom used to make them often growing up as an easy dessert and snack.
That’s it for this week. I’m off to finish a project submission for a work event. I had thought the deadline was Sunday but just found out it is Friday. Hope you all have a great week and are enjoying some delicious eats!
